I grew up in Epping, a market town on the edges of London, surrounded by forest. After training as a ballet dancer and dancing professionally with Northern Ballet for three years, I became a primary school teacher. I have written about dance and reviewed a range of productions for many print and online outlets.

I love learning! I have an Open University degree, an MA in Creative and Life Writing from Goldsmiths and a Permaculture Design certificate, among other large and small qualifications.

My debut novel, Dark River, was published in 2020 by Unsung Stories. Set between Mesolithic Doggerland and a near-future UK, it’s about motherhood, sacrifice and the climate changes past and present. It was shortlisted in two categories at the British Fantasy Awards in 2021.

My second novel, To Catch a Moon, was published by Unsung Stories in 2022. It’s a secondary world fantasy based on the paintings of Spanish Surrealist Remedios Varo, featuring lions made of leaves, owl women, daughters of the moon and ancient contracts.

Now I live in Norwich with my family, a lot of books, and a much-loved and messy garden. I spend my time pottering in my garden, reading like a magpie and writing on the margins of motherhood.

My writing is inspired by ancient things: forests, oceans, music, oral storytelling, mythology and folklore. I love stories that nest inside others, stories that trick you and stories that change the structure of your heart.

I am represented by Margaret Halton at PEW Literary.
